Re: Doorz
Finally Doors is open! The current owner (not Jim who is now in France) came around for a cuppa just now and I was able to tell him that the shop is getting mixed reviews. With the owner giving permission to say so, Lee, the signage was done by a lovely guy called Tony who lives above the premises ...

Re: Any ex pupils of St Bartholomew's Primary School?
Do you use face book? There is a group set up for St Bartholomews - I can paste your request there if it helps?
I went there donkeys years ago and so did all 5 of my children. 2 of my grandchildren went there also! I've made note of your email address and will be in touch.

Hello Julia, We lived at 14 and I remember your grandparents really well although Terry was a fair bit older than me. Your grandmother was such a lovely person. One of her jobs was filling christmas crackers and she gave us a box of tiny plastic toys. I can see your dad in my mindseye. At one point ...

Re: SYDENHAM (& LEWISHAMS) LOST CINEMAS
I great blog, a bit of a 'what was' about the lost cinemas of the Borough Of Lewisham. My uncle has memories of the Naborhood cinema and also talked about an ice rink in Silverdale (though I may have got confused about that last one - I'll ask him.) Re: Co-Op down
Contrary to most opinions I'm happy to use the new Tesco and it's a bonus that they carry a reasonable selection of gluten free products like ciabbata rolls that I would have to go to Waitrose Beckenham for. Sydenham road has never been a shoppers paradise but it is getting better with more choice ...

Re: Doctors Booking Procedures
If it's for a toddler etc., and I'm told there are no appointments left, I usually say something along the lines of 'Should I then go to the hospital and tell them that you can't see a sick child?' Last time, it produced a nurse practitioner appointment and if need be they can call in a doctor. The ...

Re: 16 Jews Walk
Back in 1969, I was at Sydenham School with a girl called Judith, who lived in a rented police house and the houses were new. They're near the top of Kirkdale above what is now Otto Close. They were eventually sold off. Same thing for a little row of houses in Dartmouth Road, Suncroft Place ...

Re: Which secondaries do local primary kids go on to, on who
Haberdashers - once a flag ship school. Still good but harder to get into as it has a feeder primary. It is now the lead school in a federation - the jury is still out on whether this has been a good idea or not. It has a very particular style which doesn't not suit every child. Small catchment but ...

Re: Wells Park Road shops
I need to post an apology as something written in my last post isn't correct; The building in questiin (from the photo) is not the one I described. On Sunday, I showed the picture to my parents and they both say that whatever that structure was, it was more recent. In fact, strangely, neither can ...

Re: Wells Park Road shops
Have just had a good look at the two photos above. The building just past Taylor's Lane was not really in use since 1940 and the bottom flat housed a family who then moved onto the Sydenham Hill estate. The dad/grandad was known locally as Sailor Johnson. It was pulled down in the clearance. The ...
