Its not silly at all. With approx 7500 buses operating in London how are the bus Co. expected to know if the vehicle is one of theirs if you don't give them the number. Taking down a vehicle reg. no. is a basic function of anyone witnessing an incident on the roads.

A bit further up the road on the corner of Knighton park road used to be the United Dairies shop which later , I think, Became the co-op.

As someone who has driven very high HGVs and double decker buses I believe there is no excuse for drivers to hit low bridges. All the bridges have their height clearly shown and drivers should know the height of their vehicle which in most cases will also be shown in the cab.

I think you may well find that the curtailment of the 176 route is permanent as TfL intend to reduce Oxford St. bus traffic by 10% this year and a further 10% next year.
