This is a classic argument against cyclists - undeniably the most vulnerable road users. As a cyclist of many years and also one time cycle courier I can provide hundreds of examples of how cars constantly flout the rules in similar ways. I often ask where PC Plod is when my left handlebar has been ...

I certainly won't be eating there. Mexican food in this country has long been an excuse for heavy drinking and the sort of food people don't mind hurling up later that evening. Orgone sites some fantastic new examples that have graced london, to which I'd add the very reasonably prices Beach Burrito ...

Same here. No crime to report of. Well - someone broke into my car and then didn't steal my CDs - which I took to be the ultimate diss. And someone did try to nick my scooter. But this is run of the mill crime for London. Nothing personal has ever happened. In fact I have never felt more part of a ...

This is sad news. That must have taken some effort to nick. Can only assume it is gracing some private rockery in kent, scaring off the birds. But still, very rubbish and sad news. Only today I reminded myself of the joy of public facilities. I went to the library and read the paper. A small thing ...

Hotels and B&Bs
I have some family coming to stay, but Chez Soulfood is too small to accomodate them. Can anyone recommend good and resonably priced hotels or B&Bs within 10/15 mins drive of Sydenham?
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

I must say it's great to see such energy in relation to this. I've never been a daily user of the Sydenham line, given that I use a combination of bicycle and scooter to commute into zone one, and when I do take the train I tend to use the direct Lwr Sydenham to Charing Cross option. Nevertheless, I ...

Raising kids in Sydenham
Mrs Soulfood is expecting. Delighful news, and has got us thinking about where we live in a completely new light.
Anyone got any tips about what's good in the area for new parents? Eg classes, groups, cafes to hang out in etc. It's a whole new world!

Recommended plumber?
Seems that everyone is asking for a tradesman... me included. Our plumber hasn't done a particularly good job of our new bathroom, and we've sprung a leak. Not urgent, but I'd like to find a good plumber who can install a new shower pronto. Any recommendations?

I was thinking of getting a scooter to get me into town and back each day. The only person I know who rides a motor bike said "although I love bikes, it always makes me worry when non-biker friends say they're getting bikes" - which sort of put me off. I've cycled in London for 6 years, and was a ...

You've chosen a nice part of London for your stay, but it does have it's less salubrious areas. I'd recommend staying as close as possible to Sydenham Hill station or, failing that, Sydenham Station. Also don't rule our Crystal Palace - great views across london. And Dulwich is particulalry nice ...

Small dogs for small houses
The soulfood household is in need of some scampering good cheer, so we're thinking of getting a dog. We've both had dogs before, and thoroughly enjoyed them, but that wasn't whilst living in an urban environment. So we've been a bit wary. But Mrs Soulfood has just got a new job in the area which ...

"late 2008: Line closes for 18 months" ??
I was just reading this http://www.alwaystouchout.com/project/3 and read that the "line" may be closed for 18months. Does anyone know if this mean a disruption of normal train services?
