Re: 5-a-side footie
I too was in receipt of said PM and am thrilled that an off the cuff idea amongst a bunch of strangers many years ago has spawned something so enduring! I moved away from Sydenham 13 years ago but still visit regularly, but I am out of the country on the 11th of May so can’t make a reunion. All the b ...

This is terrible news. It was only a few months ago that he was last in contact with me and we had a brief correspondence. I didn’t even know he was unwell. RIP Tim.

Re: Noise disturbance Jews Walk
Hi, I was informed by others that it is a couple of houses down from the Grove Centre. A neighbour went over a few weeks ago, when the music was blaring (with a sound system) all the way through a Wednesday night and was given a mouth full of abuse. I heard several people contacted the police but ...

Re: Police crack down on e-scooters
Well said Mikej. Who overwhelmingly kills & maims pedestrians on pavements? Answer: motor vehicles, motor vehicles & motor vehicles. Only yesterday: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-57934076 Walking up Westwood Hill - which I do several times a week - you would be very unlucky to be disturbed by ...

Re: Police crack down on e-scooters
Will they confiscate the car if the driver is found guilty of failure to stop and/or dangerous driving. And if not, why not? Indeed why are cars legal while far less dangerous to others and more environmentally friendly modes of transport are outlawed? History has a story to tell here. Stuart The ...

Police on foot patrol are horrendously inefficient and ineffective in all but the most specific circumstances.

Re: A couple of Cash Machine warnings
There do appear to have been a spate of these cashpoint robberies; my sister witnessed one first hand. Fortunately, she had a phone call today from a detective and the police have now made several arrests.

Re: Sydenham Tyres
No idea. I can’t say I’m particularly aware of the issue. I was merely pointing out a piece of relatively obscure legislation that I’m not sure many police officers would be aware of that the premises may be guilty of that could be brought to the attention of the neighbourhood police.

If they are repairing cars in the street (and it’s not an emergency) it is an offence under s.54(1) of the Metropolitan Police Act 1839.

Re: Worst local transport journeys?
Southern trains from Sydenham to London Bridge have given me meltdowns on a couple of occasions when I'm late for work or knackered on the way home and having to deal with last minute cancellations, endless delays and just going straight past Sydenham on the way home, meaning I've needed to get a ...

If you are paying this chap for insurance but he hasn't added you to the policy he may well have committed fraud or theft. I would contact the police around this specific issue.

356 from Forest Hill Station to Bell Green -evry 30 minutes after 7 pm but not necessarily on time and no countdown on most stops. If you save the URL for "live bus departures" in your phone you can get the countdown for any bus stop in London. Very useful: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/buses/live-bus ...

Re: LEWISHAM COUNCIL PLANNING ENFORCEMENT DESPAIR
Lame excuses from the Police who indeed should have intervened. HOWEVER... this does show how ill-advised it is to purchase a flat over a shop. What should the police have done? I can’t see anything in the original post that is a police matter save, possibly, a dubious criminal damage of a s ...

Re: The Golden Lion
I used to be a regular in the Golden Lion until I moved away in 2010. I have popped in once soon after the refurbishment and it wasn't to my taste, I found it pretty generic and lacking in character (I prefer the old-fashioned "boozer" feel) I couldn't make any major complaint. However, I popped in ...

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night
I'm struggling to think what council workers could do effectively even if there were a 24/7 flying squad if a complaint is of a one-off party or concert, assuming besuited with a clip board and no affray or violence or otherwise criminal act is in play and assuming easily outnumbered by revellers ...

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night
Well you did your best Chris Best.... A lengthy, verbose and largely unhelpful response. The next question you might ask is "what happens when someone does manage to fight their way through all of this and actually registers a complaint?" Well, if it’s a noise complaint, nothing. Because it’s not a ...

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night
Noise complaints are not the responsibility of the police. They have no powers to deal with noise. You need to contact the council.
