I think everyone who sees the new garden by the pavilion in Mayow Park is impressed, but not everyone knows that since August, when Envirowork Lewisham went bust, Iris and her team have had no funding other than a few bits and pieces.
They have a Christmas Fair coming up, December 5th, from 12 to 4pm - see their blog here http://growmayow.blogspot.com/ - but Iris was telling me she'd also be interested in something like this project which has been going a few years in Sheffield - http://www.growsheffield.com/pages/groShefAbund.html - collecting and using surplus fruit in people's gardens. Since Iris also has qualified gardeners working with her, they could also, over the winter months, develop this by helping with pruning. This is something I did with a quince in a friend's garden earlier this year, and returned to harvest the fruit and make into jelly. But it would be better if it could be done by people who really know what they are doing looking after fruit trees, and the surplus end up with the non-for-profit enterprise Iris is currently setting up. So if you have any fruit trees which need pruning or produce more fruit than you can use - or you know of anyone else who has who might be apporached, contact Iris. You can pm from this Forum, or use the email address on her blog - growmayow@gmail.com
