Best Pub Roast

Post by digime2007 »

I was a fan of the Sunday roasts at the Woodman but turned up there on Sunday and was disappointed to see it closed.

So ... where's the best Sunday roast in Sydenham/Forest Hill?

The Dolphin and Dartmouth Arms are great but any other pubs worth a look?

Does the Mexican restaurant do a Sunday roast? Might sound like a daft question, but when I lived in Brixton, I often used to go to the Dogstar on a Sunday for their excellent chilli chocolate chicken roast.

The dogstar was good!

I want a Mexican restaurant to do Mexican food and do it well. I wouldn't go to a Mexican restaurant for a Sunday roast. Unfortunately Mexican food in the Uk is generally pretty bad!

I too loved the Roasts up at the woodsman (Roast dinner that is!). I wish someone, somewhere would do a carvery. We have lots of places that seem to do exactly the same thing and it's boring!

The nearest Harvester I can think of is the Grove Tavern on Lordship Lane/Dulwich Common (just past the Horniman).

Are there any that aren't a Harvester?

The roasts up at the Honor Oak are really good - half a chicken last time I went!

Westow House isn't bad, althought it's very quiet until 1-2pm on Sunday.

The Harvester in Lordship Lane was the worst one i have been to,

The one near Riverhead in Sevenoaks is nice if you can travel.

There's one just off the A2 in Falconwood which is nice as well.

We're drifting away from the Syd area aren't we? Says something about the lack of this sort of grub in these parts.

Where's the nearest Brewer's Fayre to Syd?

The Pickhurt in Hayes has had a posh makeover in recent months - The carvery's still good value though. Get there by 12, or wait until about 2 on Sunday. Around 1, it gets a bit busy!

So basically there isn't an independent place that does a carvery in or close to Sydenham.

Whoever takes over the Greyhound might want to think about it...
