Re: how to get out of this mess
Covid kills half of Sussex care home’s residents over Christmas. A care home in East Sussex has been devastated by Covid, losing half of all its residents to the disease over Christmas, fuelling fears the new, more transmissible virus variant sweeping the south-east of England is beginning to breac...

Re: how to get out of this mess
It’s totally insane that as an #NHS doctor, I still have to tweet the fact that the #COVID19 pandemic is not a hoax and the current surge is likely to overwhelm large parts of the NHS. The next few weeks are going to be extremely difficult and COVID deniers aren’t helping matters

Re: how to get out of this mess
As an NHS clinical worker, I am not a "covid denier" but I am concerned about the collapse of the economy that pays for the health service. I know several people who have had covid and all have recovered like almost everyone else. There will be a lot more people dying from missed cancer d...

Re: how to get out of this mess
Shocking figures emerging today (Wednesday) about the acceleration of spread of the virus in South East London. From a figures of a few weeks ago where it was reported that approx 1 in 900 people were infected, we went to bed last night being told 1 in 50 is now the ratio. Unfortunately since last ...

Re: how to get out of this mess
I was in the lower Sydenham Sainsbury's a little earlier today and OMG the amount of people wheezing, coughing and not wearing masks was just surreal , if this new strain is much more infectious then I hope the mythical person in the sky (What ever god you believe in) will help us as knowing people...

Re: how to get out of this mess
FYI new covid is 10-100 times more infectious, no one knows the true number at this point. In simple terms 1 person with new covid is like 10 - 100 people with old covid breathing and coughing in your personal space. Not only are there more particles they are more easily attached to receptors. This ...

Re: The Run-in to Christmas 2020
Paraphrasing Alistair Campbell, who was using this narrative as a lead-in to a different argument in The Indie today: in a government in which critics and trouble makers are variously briefed against, bullied, sacked or marched to the door at gunpoint To which can be added, "and a Cabinet lead...

Re: The Run-in to Christmas 2020
You are not going to catch covid 19 while out in sydenham high street but avoid health care establishments at all costs But there is a steep rise in infections that are happening around us. It isn't in care homes. Telling people who need urgent health care to avoid health care establishments can be...

Re: The Run-in to Christmas 2020
Please do all be careful. I've just had a look at the Govt. website, which is showing parts of Sydenham as having - if I've read it correctly - over 400 cases per 100,000 head of population. That is horrendous. You’re absolutely right its now taking hold in Sydenham. On twitter there are no UK ment...

Air pollution
Evening all, Well just when I thought i couldn’t be less impressed with Lewisham Councillors I read this. A child died cause the council didn't treat the air pollution as a emergency but they waste no time ensuring that the posh streets have traffic control. This proves JRW is right to hold the coun...

Re: St Philip Neri school: Archdiocese appeals planning enforcement order
I find it a worry, personally, that council members are unaware of the £6.1m endowment, and that officers of C&YP are so determined to keep it secret that even high level members aren't being told. Yes, public money, approved by mayor and cabinet, but the conditions unknown, and signed off by o...

Re: How will this lockdown affect us?
Hey, This is going to be a very rough winter deaths are doubling as predicted as this lockdown is a month late and this from lewisham council Controlled Parking Zones and Pay and Display car parks will operate as usual. So in the middle of a pandemic they will force traffic wardens to work. The coun...

Re: St Philip Neri school: Archdiocese appeals planning enforcement order
That is the opinion expressed in the Archdiocese’s statement. I'm being ultra cautious about quoting, because of previous events. As Lewisham also only got the final version a couple of hours ago, I expect it will be uploaded on the planning database in a few days time. I hope everyone reads them, ...

Re: Masks
Syd, what is new about that study's findings please? What date was it published? It's been known for ages that typical blue masks will keep out the virus to about 60% as do double layer home-made cotton masks, that inhaling fewer droplets usually leads to milder symptoms, and that being in contact ...

Re: Does Lewisham Council take it constituents support for granted?
Labour have 54 out of 54 seats on Lewisham council, and got 60% of the vote in 2018: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Lewisham_London_Borough_Council_election (i.e. it's unlikely they feel the need to bung money to certain areas to get more voters!) People who move into new builds or regenerated ...
