Re: Southern Timetable Consultation
but that doesn't mean we need more than double the number of Southern services at expense of Southern/Thameslink. 10 LO trains per hour and 4 Southern with none to East Croydon doesn't seem like a good compromise. Especially when you consider that the Southern trains are twice as long Overground tr...

Re: 'Legible London' sign outside Palace Wines
I'm assuming that these panels don't just fall off and there is no sign of damage from a collision or similar, so I assume that at least one of these was a deliberate act of vandalism. Almost certainly proof that when you leave one sign missing people will copy this and vandalise the other one. When...

Re: Sydenham vs Forest Hill
I biased as I live in Forest Hill - with it's museum, swimming pool, wonderful views, and lots of good pubs and cafes. If you are looking for a cheaper place to live then Sydenham might be slightly better (I don't think there is really much difference) but the closer you get to Catford you will also...

Re: 'Legible London' sign outside Palace Wines
Can't somebody print a map of Sydenham and tape it to the inside of the sign? It is an opportunity to include a, 'Illegible Lewisham' sign with details of local independent businesses, and a message that says Lewisham is unable to bother paying for few hundred quid for the repairs to a sign that was...

Well I waste too much of my time on forum, often drafting responses that I'm too sensible to post. It would be okay if I tried not to think about what I type.mosy wrote:These forums are only wasteful if posters cause them to be so.

I'm told that is quite common in the banking sector, although my experience of people in the banking industry tells me it is not compulsory.Rachael wrote:That's slightly depressing. He seems to be possessed of a good job, and good fortune in life, but no soul.

I'm wondering if chrisbeach is a by-the-numbers troll. Would a young professional working in Canada Water and earning enough to pay over £50K a year in taxes (as he claims) really have the time or inclination to hang around the SE23 forum picking fights? He is real according to LinkedIn, with recom...

Re: Farewell to the World of Richard Bishop
And the Swiss Cottage was a pub in Stanstead Road near where the petrol station is now. Not exactly where the petrol station is, it is now a block of flats (built in the 1980s) on the other side of the fire station, on the corner of Wastdale road. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4108/5178430168_5d34...

Re: TFL to take over SouthEastern and Southern Rail
Biscuitman is right to refer to the excellent article on London Reconnections which points out just how empty on detail the announcement actually is. The press and the public have been keen to fill in the blanks with their own vision of a well run rail service. Personally I doubt that we will see ma...

Re: Town Pub
Personally I think the new policy has contributed to the pub's decline. It's a pity. Cause or symptom? I think the quality of discussion was already in serious decline (trolling, abuse, cliquey personal arguments crossing from one thread to another). The policy was a result of the problems. The con...

I'm not sure I want to support such a business any more than I would purchase a copy of the daily mail. As things stand it appears the pub is the forum's dirty little secret where trolls are hidden for fear of what the outside world would think of Sydenham if they saw. Or am I missing some virtue in...

NO, SYDENHAM POST OFFICE IS NOT CLOSING
The Guardian article does not list Sydenham as a post office that will close, it is listed under 'Branches to be franchised to private companies'. In Forest Hill I assume that WH Smith own the franchise, and there are thousands of sub-post offices across the country that are essentially franchises. ...
