Re: Social Housing
I agree with Robin, especially the point about miscreants being a minority. Unfortunately, in this climate of cuts we are fed examples of these minorities by the government and press. It's much easier to cut things when you undermine the sympathy the public may have for the recipients by skewing the...

Re: My take on London's Riots
There are better people than me to advise on the solution and there's no magic bullet (not that kind of bullet Eagle!). I do know that you can't fix things unless you understand how they work and you can't do that by stereotyping and demonising. That just leads to prejudice and discrimination. I und...

Re: My take on London's Riots
There does seem a big gulf between both sides on this discussion which I do not think perhaps will be changed , unless of course of the the liberals gets mugged or one of these families move in next door. I have experienced bad neighbours , relying totally on benefit , disturbing all the neighbours...

Re: Social Housing
@Dorian - maybe I am intolerant of intolerant people. Now there's a paradox to muse. Still, in the worse case scenario I'd say I'm the best kind of hypocrite. I make no apologies for opposing selfishness, ignorance and discrimination. @Annie - you might want to consider the concept of irony. Anyway,...

Re: Social Housing
Yeah, damn those do-gooders going around doing good. What are they playing at? Why can't they just internalise their bitterness and let their festering resentment make the world a little more unpleasant for everyone. The question is whether do-gooders are any good at doing good. Those who look aska...

Re: Social Housing
I've read a lot of your free speech over the years Eagle and I have to say I find your constant sneering and sniping at immigrants, local youth, "the benefit classes", single mums, fat people and the like highly intolerant. Then of course we have your favour for corporal punishment, Victor...

Re: Wanted threads expiring
It is true that you have to be careful with recommendations but I'm sure people don't just take them at face value. I'm more likely to believe someone who posts non-trivial replies here often than a newly registered user. The advantage of leaving the threads is that people can leave feedback on thei...

Re: Wanted threads expiring
Yeah, I understand that and it does make sense for 'offers'. I'm not so sure about 'wanted' though. One person wants an electrician; other people will want electricians in the future. I guess anything really old could mean the service is no longer being provided but that's unlikely to be the case wi...

Wanted threads expiring
Unless I'm missing something the Wanted threads on the Town Market branch seem to fall off the bottom of the thread list or just disappear after a while. Wouldn't it be a good idea to keep these posts for other people looking for similar recommendations? Or just let people post in the Town Cafe - wh...

I've not seen anything on here about this year's appeal so I thought I'd bump this old post.

Re: Rail Warrants at Sydenham Station?
Thanks Checkmate.
Southern customer services did say it would be OK but not without contradicting themselves and generally sounding confused. Looks like I should have spoken to LOROL.

Re: Rail Warrants at Sydenham Station?
I think I'd be looking at a 'season ticket rail warrant' which can be used for annual tickets. My concern is whether the station still accepts these now that it's run by London Overground. When I had my paper ticket reprinted there some time a go they weren't even sure if they could do that anymore....

Rail Warrants at Sydenham Station?
Does anyone know if you can still use rail warrants at Sydenham Station to buy annual season tickets.
I'm filling out a form at work and I'm not entirely convinced by the conversation I've just had with Southern customer services.
Thanks.

Re: UPDATED Weather and travel
I know I'm stating the obvious but Southern are updating their website every now and again with travel info:
http://www.southernrailway.com/
They are currently saying:
"Southern is asking passengers to ensure they commence their homeward journeys by 19.30 at the latest."
