From Sydenham (zone 3) 13 minutes to London Bridge on the train. They run at intervals of approximately 10 minutes. It is only 5 minutes walk across London Bridge to the City (depending on where exactly you will walk). There is the Northern Line but you walk further underground to get to Bank/Monume...

There is a European Directive which, I believe, is enshrined in our own law which requires any task to have a risk assessment. If the job is unlikely to be completed within 30 minutes it cannot be performed on a ladder. Scaffolding is not phenomenally expensive. However it is well worth considering ...

Venner Road, is in Sydenham. It is neither upper nor lower. Surely there is no formal recognition of either? Forest Hill, by the way, is just an extension of Sydenham... a sort of overspill area but definitely just a suburb. One of the questions the Sydenham Society might address is why Sydenham bec...

Unfortunately there are very few people in Sydenham aware this is going on. Where has it been advertised? Nowhere. Are there posters up on the ugly concrete pillars in Sydenham Road? No. Are there poster around the site? No. Have handbills been delivered to residents' homes? No. Some consultation! S...

Obstructed pavements

I notice one local authority is setting out to do something about this curse: http://www.expressandstar.com/articles/news/chronicles/wolverhampton/article_90869.php I wonder whether Lewisham's council realise how dangerous these obstructions are not only to the visually impaired. While they consider...

It is quite amazing to hear someone expecting to exact any kind of service out of Lewisham. You could try your local councillor but there is no election pending so don't hold your breath. You could always try a sneaky approach. Do your neighbours have planning consent for a painted sign? An enforcem...

Have leaflets been distributed around Sydenham advertising this meeting or have notices been posted on lamp-posts (as with warnings of yellow lines) in order that people not having access to the internet or its obscure corners are aware of the forthcoming meeting? Don't tell me it was advertised in ...

an excellent form of market research is to listen to the views of your consituents.

To do this you need the following equipment:

1. a pencil
2. a piece of paper
3. a knuckle with which to knock on the occasional door
4. a pair of legs or a wheelchair.
5. ears

as I posted elsewhere.... there was supposed to be a multi-plex at Bell Green. It was dropped because, it is said, of the proposals (now ditched) for the one at Crystal Palace.

Time for the planners to reimpose the original conditions on Bell Green perhaps?

I cannot understand why no-one has ever suggeste...

Am I right in believing the Crystal Palace baths are going to close for redevelopment at around the same time? Can anyone think of a worse location for a school than the site of the present swimming baths? On one of the busiest roads in Lewisham it is surrounded by pubs and night clubs. The next cam...
