Admin what is the EDF?
Obviously not as great as my aversion to being called a liar!

EDF is the East Dulwich Forum but to get there you have to pass through the Bermuda triangle of SE23.com. Not for the faint hearted.

Forget the place in East Croydon (church street). Went there today and the building is being demolished.

Re: The Bad News

Thomas - yep, and that would suck but you're describing inconvenience and the potential for paying more than you'd like for your life long investment. That's not ideal but is in no way the same as never being able to afford your own home or having to leave the place you grew up in to be able to buy ...

Re: The Bad News

Negative equity can also stop you re-mortgaging - handy if your existing mortgage becomes uncompetitive, or if you want greater security by switching from a variable rate to a tracker - and not being able to move is also a problem if you need a bigger home, for example if a young couple start a fam...

Re: The Bad News

Personally I think it's good news that house prices are falling. You wouldn't if you were in negative equity as many are. G-man For most people that just stops you moving. Hardly the end of the world. I do have sympathy for anyone who can't meet their payments but also can't sell. Labour did a lot ...

Re: The Bad News

Draw from the statistics what you will, but the crude hypothesis that the educated, home-owning middle class want many more upmarket shops doesn't bear out. Why is the hypothesis crude? Why do you have to be "educated, home-owning [and] middle class" to want a wider selection of places to...

Re: The Bad News

Personally I think it's good news that house prices are falling. I agree there has been an obsession with property over the last 15 years or so. One of the things I think the last government got wrong was allowing the market to inflate unsustainably. It seems blatantly unfair to me that those with m...

Re: GOOD NEWS

Simon, Sydenham retail is important. It's important to the businesses and the community that live here. A successful high street is good for everyone. I don't understand why some people have such animosity towards the idea of local shops and restaurants becoming successful. Especially when the alter...

Re: GOOD NEWS

Dot, you've just listed different types of shops, you haven't shown the high street has the diversity to attract a broad range of local residents. The fact is a large number of Sydenham residents routinely "carry on with their business" by going to other areas to spend their money because ...

Re: Chinese shop - Tom Yum Paste

There's quite large Chinese supermarket in East Croydon on Church Street (roughly where Argos is). There's also one in Camberwell.

Also, SMB foods in East Dulwich will probably sell it.

Re: GOOD NEWS

I've never quite understood how Crystal Palace attracts such an array of interesting, independent shops that Sydenham never does. W. Wonder I think you need a 'critical mass' of decent places to shop, eat and drink before you can start to get enough people through the door and make business investm...

Are you sure it's a Tomcat and not a Big Bad Wolf?

Assuming it might be the latter I'd advised you to double up on that Whiskas. 8 out of 10 big bad wolves prefer it.

Re: McCoys Crisps = Free curry @ Garam Masala

I think curry leaves make a curry, having been to southern India and had a days cooking observation at a family house they are an essential ingredient, can't say for the rest of india but down there they are. G-Man Exactly. They are essential in a lot of southern Indian food. They just don't work i...

Don't worry. We understood what you meant just fine and, for me, that's the true test.

I'm not a fan of the grammar police and their rules-is-rules dictatorship.

If the library gets cut they'll be little hope for heathen upstarts like me!
