Not much more at all. I'm still on the trail of my g.g.grandfather, and I tracked down some details of a court proceeding from 1889 (selling/letting fish businesses that he didn't own!) where one of the detectives who nabbed him, quoted as finding him in 'The Reindeer Public-House'. He doesn't clari...

Pub name help
Does anyone know if there was ever a public-house in, or around, Sydenham/Dulwich/Lewisham? (about 1880's), called 'The Reindeer'.
Any information will be a great help.
Paul.

Sydenham TV: Forest Hill Baths
A cracking little potted history into the Forest Hill Baths by Mr Steve Grindlay; Who, it has to be said, seemed very comfortable infront of the camera.
Very interesting and nicely produced. Any more in the pipeline?

Are there any closer photographs about of Dartmouth road - The first row of shops up from the Dartmouth Arms. Steve G posted a heap of info a while back, because the fishmonger that used to be there once belonged to my 3x Great Granddad. Thanks to that info I got chatting with my Great Aunt and she ...

A cracking lot you have there! (I hope you have the copyrights for them all  ) Yes, we live in a [nice*] modern age. Yes, we can shop online, etc ... But wouldn't you love to have a walk down some of those streets. There seems to be something strangely cosy about the fully-covered paths from t...

That is brilliant! I really didn't know that that building once belonged to William. It was only when I stumbled across the photo that I got thinking(as in the picture you posted of the line of shops at Kirkdale/Denham crt.). I'm a complete novice when it comes to searching for my family tree, but t...

In search of info on a building (Dartmouth rd.)
Hello, I've seen a photograph on this forum (From Mr Grindlay I think), showing R. Chalk to the left corner and the Dartmouth Arms a little further up the road. Next to this are a line of buildings and one of the shops has an advert to the side of it (The Fish & Poultry Market building). I just ...

I find the Ashbys, particularly William, rather difficult to pin down Tell me about it! lol. I've been trawling throught the census details (online) for a couple of months now, and my family has a confusing past. My g.g. Uncle William (jr) seems to have been the most successful, as he apparently ow...

That is brilliant, many thanks Falkor! I would have been happy at any info, but this! As I said in the original post, I already have one book on the area (Archive Photo series: Sydenham and Forest Hill), and this certainly helped shape the way I looked into the past of Sydenham I was interested in 1...

High Street, Sydenham Hill & Krikdale??? (Help)
I'm really not sure where to start with this question!? I have recently started looking into my family history and have traced them back to the Sydenham area. I'm looking at the 1850's - 1900's period, and since I stumbled across a posting by Mr Grindlay (which showed a row of shops in the former Ki...

Those above Photographs
Mr Steve Grindlay, I'd just like to thank you for making my day! A few months ago I finally got around to starting my family tree. I have, to date, traced my fathers side back to the mighty town of Sydenham. I have been looking for any old photographs of the area because my family had business there...
