You may have noticed yesterday (Monday) that work has started on the renovation of the pub. Cynthia says it should take three weeks.

She also has a ambitious charity programme for later this month. I will post details on the main site later today.

I don't know about classes but there are two local active amateur dramatic groups that I know of:

* St Georges Players http://www.st-georges-players.org.uk
* Wednesdays at The Foresters 53 Perry Vale, London SE23 2NE

I'm sure there must be many more...

I went to the meet'n'greet last night. About 25 people. Due to Rooney et al exciting the regular customers it was difficult to follow all that was said. But this is what I remember: * The horrid external colour is to be toned down with a terracotta replacing the ..errr.. turquoise? * Undesireables h...

Indeed!

Just a reminder that those who care (and fancy a pint) can start tomorrow night at The Greyhound 17th @ 6pm.

The new landlords are inviting us to share our thoughts on revitalising what should be Sydenham's premier pub. See:

That site is a great find Dave. Thanks. I have been in touch with the webmaster. He has kindly allowed me to use some of his ELLX material which I will use to beef up our pages. He also said this: For the people on your forum, it might be worth me pointing out that as things go, progress on the exte...

According to someone who lives there - they had a fire yesterday. "Everybody is too traumatised to open today - might open tomorrow"

Another source said that this was the result of a burglary, dropped match with two fire engines attending.

Latest reports suggest that there have been 'dummy' explosions (detonators only). No reports of casulties so it looks like a concerted prank at the moment. TfL have gone to code 'Amber' so we have lost the tube system for the time being. As ever the best place to go for more is: http://news.bbc.co.uk

Tube Alert

Just to say that there is an alert an Oval, Warren Street & Shepherds Bush stations. Some lines have been closed. Alert started just after 1pm.

Lets hope it is only a scare but disruption is certain.

The write-up of this meeting is very interesting, but I'm surprised there is no mention of any commercial development in the park - is this what is meant by a 'good big idea' for the top site? LDA are sensitive to the furore over the multiplex and appear desperate to not go there again. They are ob...

Whatever fishcox - but I for one will be loyal to Kentman's in Kirkdale. Perhaps its a way of keeping a Turkish influence in our local diet. The lady there is a sweety. She always remembers our orders and asks after the kids.

Also next week is the very last 'Ground Force'. It is set at the British Museum but there is a strong local connection. I hope to have details on the Forest Hill site on Monday.

Sunny Side Up

This sunny weather is good for more than getting a tan. The Horniman has completed in time for midsummer's day a two year project of creating a trail of ten very different sundials. Each has some hidden references to the district, people and the museum. Worth a visit. If you are too lazy you can tak...

Sydenham a gogo

"The neighbourhoods of Crystal Palace Park have, one by one, fallen before the onslaught of the gentrifiers. Sydenham? Mochaccinos à gogo. Gipsy Hill? Wall-to-wall gift shops. Even Norwood is said to be considering a juice bar concept. Only Penge holds firm. Rally those three-wheeled baby buggi...
