McCoys Crisps = Free curry @ Garam Masala

Post by G-Man »

Hello

I've just eaten a packet of McCoys crisps and they have a voucher on them for a free curry, our very own Garam Masala is on the list of curry houses. How good is that?

Cheers

Excellent - never had a bad curry from Garam Masala.

Definitely looking out for a promo pack of McCoys.

Have to say I find their curries a little bland. Plus they have an obsession with curry leaves. Why do they throw them in everything?

I always have Dhansak - and although Gurkhas takes some beating, Garam Masala never let me down.

I think curry leaves make a curry, having been to southern India and had a days cooking observation at a family house they are an essential ingredient, can't say for the rest of india but down there they are. Really want a plant actually as fresh ones are so much better.

Hi G man, Good luck in your search. Just remember that the leaves and berries are edible but the seeds are poisonous.

Exactly. They are essential in a lot of southern Indian food. They just don't work in all curries and shouldn't be found in every curry.

I know the food in curry houses could never be accused of being authentic anyway but I think this is strange adaptation. Why not put a few 'proper' curries from southern India on the menu instead?

Thanks for letting us know about this deal. I'll definitely be running out to get a McCoys crisps. Garam Masala's chicken jalfrezi, tandoori chicken and dal take some beating.

As for the curry leaves, the chef and staff at GM are Bengali and I'm sure that Bengali curries do not tend to contain whole curry leaves. It's intersting to know why the chef is adding curry leaves to the cooking. (I think the vast majority of "Indian" curry houses in London are, in fact, run by Bengalis).
