Dorian - I don't think you can expect the Sydenham Society, Ward Councilors, L.B. of Lewisham or general posters on this Forum to have the capacity to develop a realistic project for this use of this space, working with the freeholders. OTOH, if discussions here have prompted you or any other entrepreneur to do so, then that's fantastic. The discussion is a bit like that on Lee's recent thread on "What If We did this to attract business to Sydenham", which might amount to identifying a market opportunity for a local marketing business. But to make such things happen, you need people who know what they are doing, and ready to commit seriously.Dorian wrote:Thanks G-Man for the link. As I mentioned earlier, I would be happy to approach the owners of the property and help out with the project with the caveat " if there was enough interest". There clearly is not from posters on this forum or in fact the Sydenham Society, Ward Councilors or L.B. of Lewisham. Thats in its self tells a story; But thanks.G-Man wrote:Here's Space Makers website, if either of you (Dorian and Mosy) want to contact them. Re: The two half´s pub
Tim, I appreciate fully what you are saying.
I would add that reliance on attracting " entrepreneurs" to improve the High Street has not been exactly a success in the last 25 years that I have frequented it. Its gone backwards.
The idea on this thread was for a community space serving muti-functions that have been asked for by conributors on this site on numerous occasions. My point was that if the existing Community groups are not interested the " Community " aspect of the idea fails; and yes as you quite righlty say the use of the building is in the hands of whatever " entrepreneurs business" takes it over.........betting shop, chicken shop, cheque casher , kebab shop maybe.................Sydenham seems to be popular with those users at the moment.
C'est la vie

Dorain - as I said in my last post, give it a go, this thread has had over 4000 views so it's worth a go, just investigate, people are interested or they wouldn't be reading this thread.
Tim - I think if we had a stronger local traders association and the Sydenham Sociaety collaborated and listened to what people are saying we would have a better High Street.
On their website they say "Our aim is to be a voice for Sydenham and to make SE26 a better place to live and work. We strive to protect and improve services and amenities which impact on the local area. Our main areas of interest are Conservation & Planning, Transport and the Environment".
Are they actually doing this at the moment? Can't someone from the society show their support for Dorian, Mosy and Lee's what if? ideas? If they have clout they can help really change Sydenham for the better, as I think now, more than any other time is when that clout is needed.

I've looked at the Space Makers site as suggested originally by Leenewham (thanks for the link G-Man). They do look like people who might have the sort of connections needed.G-Man wrote:Here's Space Makers website, if either of you (Dorian and Mosy) want to contact them. I'm afraid my competence in this area would be little more than to alert them of the empty property, being The Two Half's, as from reading other posts, it is clear to me that a huge amount of background knowledge is needed about "how things work".
Does anyone know if Space Makers have been alerted to this property?
Re: The two half´s pub
Mosy - just give them a call, see what they have to say, tell them the ideas that have been banded about and let everyone know the next stages via this Forum - then we can start doing things, if they are viable.
Cheers

Re: The two half´s pub
Here is the link for the details http://www.cradick.co.uk/availableRetai ... &vId=37281- rent is £45,000 per annum exclusive of rates (shown as £6,603), insurance and VAT - so around £1,000 per week for a new sublease expiring 22 December 2016. Ground floor with sales space of 255 sq metres with storage and rear access for loading.
Re: The two half´s pub
Details have it as A1, A2,A3 and A4 so could be a betting shop. Good location, next to the Post Office but £1k a week is prohibitive. In fact any business would struggle with that rent, no wonder the pub failed.
