Be part of The Remarkable Race of 1913!
Fancy being part of The Remarkable Race of 1913?
This latest theatrical extravaganza from Jonathan Kaufman and Spontaneous Productions takes place on Sun 7 July at Mayow Park (1-3pm)
The show is a 'promenade production', with costumed actors riding pedal-powered vehicles, transformed into old-fashioned jalopies, around Mayow Park's oval track - in an Edwardian 'Wacky Races.'
A featured event at Sydenham Arts Festival 2013, the show is completely free to all, and suitable for all ages.
We're looking for locals to act as 'race officials', stewards and marshals to assist with crowd management on the day, and ensure the health & safety of both riders and audience.
There are also opportunities for a supporting cast of actors, to appear as race competitors, pit stop technicians, bookies and dancers. You'd need to be available on the day of the show from 9am, for a 'dress rehearsal', and possibly one extra rehearsal during the day on either Thur 4 or Fri 5 July.
To find out more come along and meet director/producer Jonathan Kaufman next Saturday 15 June, 3pm, at the main entrance to Mayow Park. Or email jonathan@sydenhamartsfestival.co.uk
Details of the show here:

We're also still looking for artists to help make the madcap vehicles, so get in touch if interested!

Just tweeted about this as @MayowPark1, so I thought I'd give this a bump ...

No absolutely not - bet instead on the one driving a tricycle and pushing a trailer full of mirrors, make up and hair spray!
(Though it has to be said the bet around here is that she will be the very last one to get to the end and even that depends on her starting, never mind getting anywhere at all - not very nice people around here, clearly)

And there are more pics here, by Ann Pownall, on the Spontaneous Productions website:

I'm now looking for funding opportunities to bring the show back to other parks in Lewisham and other south London boroughs. So I'd appreciate any positive comments about the show, as this will help immensely!
thanks

I saw it! It was wonderful, really amazing to see the stamina of the actors on such a hot day Great to see an outdoor space used so effectively.

Forum visitors, and anyone who missed this show the first time round, might be interested to know that I'm hoping to bring the show to Crystal Palace Park next year. The managers are very keen to programme it alongside the motor racing, so watch this space for more details!
