Grumpy Old Hacker

Post by Tim Lund »

Occupants and visitors to the Asylum may have picked up a certain tension between me and my local councillor, John Paschoud.

Having googled him a bit more, I am perhaps a bit more understanding of where he is coming from. In 2006, long before I had given more than cursory thought to the whole matter of how local authorities use the internet, he'd tried blogging on it, at one point describing himself as a Grumpy Old Hacker.

In what he wote there, I particularly like that he was
adopting a personal policy of Zero Tolerance to Uselessness as far as council IT goes
- but there's plenty of other stuff worth reading.

I can see why someone like me, criticising him for not using Forums such as this more, will be very irritating, but I hope everyone can see that we are ultimately on the same side.

There's a good response from John on his Love Perry Vale site to a question I asked about recent Lewisham web site changes, costs thereof and possibility of having data opened up. But to save time and possibly irritating him further, I'll not bother copy it across here for others to comment - even though you'll have to register to see what's written.

OTOH, to maintain the point that local councillors really should be using this Forum more, I've copied Susan Wise's latest nice good news story here, where I'll wager it gets more viewers than it will there.
