Big Cat in Catford

Post by coral »

A month ago whilst walking home along Datchet Road, Catford between 22.00 and 22.30hrs I saw what appeared to be a big cat. It was strolling between cars and front pathways of houses. I had no idea of previously reported sightings of black panthers and such like until my daughter later informed me of such.
It was not black but more a brownish colour. The height was about 2 - 3ft high, thin body frame and it's fur was much shorter than a pet cat. The head was definetly that of the cat family.
Make no mistake about it all you doubting Thomas's out there, a big Cat is definetly at large in the borders of Catford/Sydenham.

I'd really like a sighting of this thing - a shot on the camera phone could probably make a few pennies!

For now the Sydenham Panther will have to remain as a forum namesake

Hi Coral. I'd like to hear more about your sighting of a large cat in Catford, assuming it was a large, exotic cat.
I research the sightings full-time and have read the numerous posts on this forum, with interest.

'Sydenhampanther' ...I'm sure you'd love to make money out of getting a photo of this animal but a) it's a strange way of looking at this situation, b) it's very unlikely you will do so. These animals are mainly nocturnal, have large territories and are extremely elusive. Nobody makes money out of such evidence, and most footage is often blurry or unconvincing.

Regards
Neil

Hi Neil
Not sure if you're still looking in to this? But I'm posting on behalf of my Nan who lives in Catford. Her encounter was last Wednesday (2nd September 2015) and unlike the other reports it was not at night it was early afternoon. She was standing in her kitchen looking out in to the garden when she noticed at the end of the garden a much larger than average cat. The body was about 1.5-2ft with long hair and the tail was as long as the body if not longer and very thick. The face was very big with marking she describes as tiger like. The colour was tabby. She opened the door to try to startle it but found that rather than run away as her neighbours 9 cats usually do this one came towards her so she went back inside! The cat then tried to get on top of the shelter over the pond but was too large.
