I don't think 8 is a viable number. That is one (rush) goalie and three outfield players per team.
If those that have already committed are fine with 4 a side, then i will book and dip into the reserve funds to keep costs at £6 each.

If we get another two players then i'll definitely book.

Just to reiterate for those players who weren't here for the start of the season (and can't be bothered to read the earlier pages of the thread), the reason i ask for players to confirm their attendance (or not) each week, is that we had a 'no show' evening. 4 people turned up so we opted not to play. However, I still got hit for an invoice for £58.90, which was unfair on me and the four other people that turned up.

We got around it in the end, but this is why i ask people to confirm each week before i book. With only 8 people confirmed, it is still borderline.

OK guys, i am reluctantly pulling the plug on the 2nd September.

We only had 8 confirmed people, and even then some of them may get last minute 'diversions'.
I think it is unfair to leave people waiting until 2 days before the match to confirm whether it is going ahead or not.

Next match is Wednesday 9th September. (apologies to those that had responded to this weeks proposed match), but i really need as many EARLY confirmations as possible. Sorry and all that.

Cheers biscuitman. I try not to be too harsh. It's a careful balance between the freedom of booking week by week or the conscription of making players pay weeks in advance.

I would like to think i am making fair requests. You cannot please everyone, after all.

I have to be aware that people drop out for several weeks at a time, and then we get new players turning up without prior warning.

I would like to think i am being reasonable in my postings.

Players for the 9th September?

Shame. I think we might have got 10 this week and personally happy to play 4 a side.

Anyone realised it's the England/Croatia qualifier on the 9th ?

Shame about tomorrow night but understand - I'm available for the 8th.

On a related matter I run an 11 a side team, Golden Lion Reserves (not the sydenham golden lion tho..) We play in the first division of the Croydon Sunday League, so a reasonable high standard. We would have been promoted last season but our first team are in the premier div and they wouldn't allow us to play against each other...

We're looking for a few extra players this season so if anyone is interested please pm me? We play our home games at Riddlesdown School and the rest in the Croydon area. KO are always 10.30 and I drive from Sydenham so happy to offer lifts.

yeah, i know it's a shame, but as i stated previously, I cannot assume people are going to attend. I need people to confirm week by week so we get the flexibility of missing the odd week here and there

We can either pay 5 weeks in advance, or pay week by week. The trouble we had in August was a lot of people were on holiday so numbers were likely to fluctuate.

I am still looking for people for the 9th. If we kick-off at 8pm, then it means we can watch the 2nd half of the England match in the bar.

Right, okay well I'll bring a minimum of two along but I'll keep an eye out on the forum too, so if it looks short, I'll rustle up some more.

Guys,

Apologies for late response as ever (I know this will pee Ali off a lot so sorry). I was waiting on whether could play htis Wednesday or be required to finish laying a new floor in my flat. Floor still needs to be layed but have roped in help at the weekend so potentially could make tomorrow night but assume from the reponses this is now off. I can't make next week (9th) however so hopefully see you on the following week (16th)

Cheers Trickster.

ps Will check first thing tomorrow in case tomorrow night gets a recall.

Well I'm still keen - if Trixster, my brother (Marathon), me and 2 others are in, can we get enough interest at short notice and will the pitch be free ?

Glad to see you're keen - this will only work though if a load of people post their interest asap.
Time is running out....

I am still up for it. Will check again at 5:30pm if there is no confirmed booking by then I will presume it isn't going ahead as I have no computer access then until 7pm which will be too late. There were originally 8 people excluding me on for tonight so not sure where the interest went?

OK - I think we have 8 now.

My brother is in a meeting at the moment and I am waiting on how many he is bringing.

I am going to be off the net now until 1730, but if Biscuitman and Trickster want to phone me on 07843 592839 to confirm that it is on then please do.

Unfortunately we can only confirm 7 players tonight, so it's not going ahead. It was worth a try anyway.

Don't worry Ali it isn't a coup attempt

See you guys next week.

Fair enough, tonight is a no go, I shall have to be content with doing DIY instead. I am not able to make next week, so hopefully see you on the 16th.

Cheers Dickie
