More on Peckermans Woods?

Post by telegramsam »

Hello to all

I spent a lot of my childhood in Sydenham and have just moved back from overseas. I've been reading the forum for several months from afar but now closer to home have to find a permanent home! I've read the threads re: subsidence (or lack of it) in Peckermans Wood. I really like the area but want to know if any residents (or former res) can tell me if there are any cons and also do the houses rent well? (in case I have to go overseas again) I'm hoping to buy and have narrowed down it down to a couple of areas in Syd/ED..although these are odd times to be buying. By the way....a great forum-lots of honest and friendly comment.
Many thanks TS

Was hoping one or two of those who knew Peckermans from the earlier thread this year might have a comment or two. Not to worry..will ask around.

Hi
sorry, i hadn't checked in for a long time. i think i was the one who started up the peckarmans wood discussions a while ago.
and to update you, we bought the house, refurbished it and moved in last autumn and i absolutely adore living there. peckarmans wood is literally paradise.
living opposite the woods has just been brilliant. it is peaceful and quiet and the air is clean and fresh. i can't beleive it is even london... in fact 12 minutes away from victoria. its truely amazing!
i'm afraid i can't give you any advise on whether the houses rent (although i am sure one is up for rent on the Foxtons website) but i don't know whether it has been let or not.
but the houses are really well designed - perfect modern living in a beautiful environment. i can't recommend it highly enough!
best of luck.

Thanks for that. I had hoped you might read my post!We will keep an eye out for properties there-not much on the market there at the moment.

Peckarmans Wood

I've stayed in this estate many times over years as I have relatives there. I did have friends buy a 2nd place on the estate, but had trouble renting it (about 3 years ago). Might I suggest you check out Otto Close, SE26, ex Corporation of London, just behind Sydenham Hill/Kirkdale intersection. There are 3/4 bedroom maisonettes that come up for sale now and then. I owned one and loved the fact I had wall of sliding doors opening onto large green - quiet and lovely outlook, aqlso across road from entry to Woods. Much cheaper, about 10 minutes walk to Forest Hill via short cut. I saw one for sale about 3 months ago at 250,000 pounds. Sheltered Housing is on one side and a delightful (also ex Corp of London) development of sort of cottages on other.
