Zanzibar Sparkles Snooker Badda Badda Bingo

Does anyone know what the space under the old Cobbs Corner store was called before it became ZANZIBAR? There is a fun old sign down there saying ‘THE WORLD OF ENTERTAINMENT’ and I am trying to find out when it was Installed.

Reasons To Be Cheeerful

Here are my Sydenham Reasons To Be Cheerful. 1.2.3 1. Judy putting a squirt of whipped cream on my Sunday almond cappuccino at Cobbs Corner Cafe. 2. The always helpful DIY boys at the amazing shop opposite The Greyhound. 3. The World Of Entertainment sign at the entrance to Apple Bingo Hall down the ...

STARBUCKS OPENING January 2023

They are currently hiring 10+ people to staff the new Sydenham Starbucks which will be in the old bank on the corner of Venner Road and Sydenham Road. Next door to the barbershop. I love Cobb's Corner for my morning coffee and occasionally go down to On The Hoof (great omelettes too!) and Blackbird ...

Re: Storm Eunice

I had to walk home from Brockwell Lido and there were many trees down in Sth Croxted Road (2 cars destroyed), trees in the road by the old Harvester on the South Circular and on Kirkdale. We were lucky in Venner Road to have no discernible damage - I hope you are all ok.

Re: Mail

I went to Forest Hill depot and the very lovely guy on the front desk looked stressed. He said 50% of the staff were off with Covid and they were deluged with unsorted post. I asked a few more questions and he laughed and shrugged and said that they were doing their best but……

Train noise

We live on the railway side of Venner Road and it feels like the frequency and volume of trains on all three tracks has increased enormously. We can hardly speak in the garden now. Is anyone else feeling the same way?

Re: Commercial unit next to Penge East station

I go there every day and it is such a warm welcome atmosphere. The owner is hoping to have the patio garden open soon - once the Penge East construction team have completed work by her unit. The food offering will probably increase as well then. Such a lovely new asset to the area.

Venner Road police and ambulance this morning

There was an incident near the bend of VENNER ROAD this morning at 9.25am involving a distressed young woman running naked down the street. A wonderful Good Samaritan neighbour came out, wrapped her in a blanket and looked after her. I have no idea what happened but it is good to know that there are ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

From the look of things the kitchen is now fully installed (upstairs left if you look at it from outside Kirkdale Books. The RSJs have gone in for The Sainsbury Wing (aka the extension by their entrance!) and according to the workmen it is going to be a conservatory. According to the guy in Blue ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I looked inside the new Acorn site on Saturday and there was a massive flat screen tv being installed on the wall, at Ring O' Nandos there were architects in marking up various pillars and bits of the floor for remodeling and over at the Hound there were some guys going in to 'measure up for the ...

Twitter as a campaign tool.

There was a geyser-like water burst outside 138 Venner Road and despite my reporting it by phone no one turned up at all so, a week later, I tweeted about it and by the end of the next day it was repaired. Let's never forget the power of Twitter! There are no streetlamps today at all so I am going ...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

Why isn't this a massive scandal being covered by the London Evening Standard? Because it is in Sydenham and not Kensington.

Re: Sydenham improvement works

Big trees are going in at the end of Venner and four huge metal posts have gone in too. The builders told us that a big permanent canvas awning will go up shortly to create a covered market space. It is lovely to see big flower troughs outside the very posh/expensive/freezing cold Co Op too. I now ...

Re: VENNER ROAD/HIGH STREET

I gather they are installing a sunken garden, some fountains and a statue of Nigel Farage at the end of Venner Road.
