Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic
I heard on the local news that Lewisham are abandoning these road closures as they are 'not working'. Common sense has prevailed!! I do hope this isn't fake news but it was on local BBC news so I guess it's true.... :D :D :D Doesn't apply to the whole borough......... https://www.newsshopper.co.uk ...

Re: Proposed 20 metre high monopole 277 Kirkdale
In the proposal there's a question 'Can the site be seen from a public road, public footpath, bridleway or other public land?' They answer 'no' but with a 20 metre monopole that's clearly wrong. How can the answer be no? It can be seen clearly from Kirkdale Green (and my home which backs onto the ...

Re: Thinking about moving to the area
If parking is a particular issue for you, Byne road can get very bad. Well pre lockdown. As can getting out of the local roads because of the queues on Newlands Park unless you head towards Penge way. I had a friend who lived there for several years so that's as much as I know about it. Remember to ...

Re: Thinking about moving to the area
The road is a mixture of people. Singles, couples, families etc. Some new to the road and others like me, here for years. Parking was never a problem until the 24 hour gym opened some years ago. Pre lockdown it was busy in the evenings but even then on the odd evening parking in Kinver or Peak hill ...

Re: Thinking about moving to the area
Hi Peter I've lived on Collingtree Road since '93 and I'm happy to answer any questions on the road or the area. It's difficult to say where is good or bad in any area because people can have differing opinions. North and south London can have a different feel/vibe so renting prior to buying could ...

Re: Sydenham Grand Prix
The noise is the guys on quad bikes. They came down my road (Collingtree) several times over the last week and then decide to either turn right and go up kirkdale, or left and down towards the station and beyond. They sat at the top of Collingtree, revving up and then floored it to the bottom ...

Re: Bell Green cattle trough stolen
Very sad to read that local history is now being stolen.
The one at bell green was originally at kent house road I think. Well, my sketchy memory from being a kid walking past it in the 60's seems to remember that.

Re: Cox's Walk footbridge
I was there last weekend. There's information about it by the entrance to the woods. We walked down to the bridge and when you see the oaks they are beautiful and home to wildlife. I've signed and hope that the council think again. If they were in a conservation area they'd have a TPO on them. Would ...

Re: The Drowning Place - Beckenham Place Park
Thank you for posting the info.
Not that I let my preschool grandson anywhere near water I can't see the bottom of, it's worrying to know that water that deep is there.
It's a good park to let kids run off steam due to the large expanse of grass but think I'll stick to others for now.

Re: Bingo and bikes in Sydenham
I think the bingo hall is for the old (snooker?) club that is accessed from Spring Hill.
It's about the right size for one too from memory, but that's going back to the 80's when it was a bar with live music.
Unless it got incorporated into the night club when it changed hands?

Not just piles of rubbish to worry about, but theft and assault too. Must have been very frightening for those who were there.

Re: Disease carrying slugs hit Sydenham
It's not a recent thing. Back in the 80's I lived in the Thorpes and my cat got lung worm. Treated by the vet (Paul someone, lovely guy committed suicide unfortunately a few days later) who opened the Vets on Mayow Road. He thought it was cancer and advised me to have her put down. I asked for the ...

No more businesses that need parking please. I live on Collingtree Road and Parking is dreadful now due to the 24 hour gym. It was bad enough prior to that due to station parking. Horniman sale was run by the Friends of the Horniman , but they have been disbanded as fund raising efforts have all been taken in house by the museum. It seems unlikely there will be a plant sale at the Horniman in the near future That's a shame I've had some nice and unusual plants from there and ...
